My Mother’s Day Vision, Realized

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

Everyone mothers someone, amiright? And everyone has a mother. So it’s a great day for everybody – enjoy!

This is my 3rd motherless mother’s day. I wrote about my first one here.

Mom, if you’re reading, I miss you and hope you are in a better place.

You’d be happy to see what I’ve done with my rooftop patio – I know you loved sitting out here, and now I’ve given it (with help) the spruce-up I’ve been imagining for weeks already. Behold:

View of newly fixed up patio
Sitting down view – Mizz J and her boyfriend helped me repaint my patio furniture last night. And IKEA helped with new colourful cushions, lanterns, and draperies.
New for 2018 – a water feature!
Kevin also helped craft these gorgeous Jasper tablecloth weights, symbolizing earth.
More tablecloth weights
Fire (fire pot, candle) and water!
Wind feature (wind chime, created by Mizz J).  Dragonfly plaque – my mom gave it to me, years ago.

Earth, wind, water and fire – this badass patio has it all!

Looking forward to many days and nights enjoying my outdoor space this season, starting this afternoon with my family.

Wishing you a lovely Sunday, however you choose to spend it.

Rock on,

The WB

Your outdoor place is wonderful. Love your dragonflies and wind chimes are my current weakness. Great color theme…brings out the beauty of the brinks.

  2. Your rooftop oasis looks every bit as idyllic as I imagine it feels. I just love the sound of running water, and those tablecloth weights are awesome. I hope you’re having a fabulous afternoon.

  3. That rooftop oasis looks so inviting! I bet your Mom will be hanging out there with you, in spirit, from wherever she is now. I am loving the colored accents and that water feature…oh, that is so cool! Great job on the spruce-up. Wishing you a beautiful afternoon of relaxing and enjoying with the family. 🙂

  4. It is tough to be without your mother every day and especially on Mother’s Day, isn’t it? I love your patio and I’m sure your mother would, too. I need to spruce up patio furniture and I never thought of accessorizing with IKEA products. I need to check them out. Also, I want a water feature asap! -Molly

I *love* your water fountain. It is so cute. I haven’t seen one like that before, but I would so buy it if I did. The patio looks like a lovely place to sit with a cuppa and a book I hope you take the time to enjoy it.

  6. Happy Belated Mother’s Day, Deb! I reread your first Motherless Day’s Post – my mom is getting on in years (although she is a young 72) so I really feel what you are saying! As my Younger Daughter is always reminding me, have you given your mom a hug today? Wise words given that time is so very precious!

    1. Isn’t it though? On one of my drives to work I heard the radio announcers polling people on their favourite excuses to get out of visiting parents or grandparents and I thought: if these people only grasped that their family won’t be around forever they would never joke about this or dodge a visit. Life is not only short, but uncertain. We need to remember this!
