2019 – The Year to Record

Happy New Year, fellow Badasses (Badassians?)!

Welcome to 2019. I hope you  are doing better than me – I’m currently fighting off a virus with the help of Tylenol Cold & Flu* (extra strength).

So, while the medicine is making it possible to sit upright and type, I thought I’d share with you what I’ve been thinking and planning for this next turn around the sun.

I’ve decided my word for this year is RECORD. I just don’t do enough of this and I’d like to see that improve in 2019.

To that end, I purchased this uber-cute Hobonichi planner, from Japan:

A6 planner from Hobonichi
Hobonichi Techo A6 for 2019 – small enough to throw in just about any purse or tote bag. Filled with beautiful, fountain pen-friendly paper…

I came across a couple of booklets and packs of stickers at Michaels, and used them on the planner to help set my intentions for 2019.

inspirational stickers
Stickers decorating the inner cover.

And on the other side of the inner cover:

more stickers on cover
More reminders/inspiration on the flipside.

And here are my intentions, for 2019:

Goals for 2019
Turning the pages to a new year with new intentions…

My intentions are pretty modest, therefore do-able. I have realized from a couple of months of being on WW that I am not going to lose weight quickly. I was 9.9 pounds down just before Christmas and a bit chagrined to see the scale going down in 1/2 pound increments, week after week. But now I’ve come to realize that this is just how it’s going to be for my age and metabolism. And 1/2 pound per week is 2 pounds per month and that’s 24 pounds gone in a year. Which sounds pretty amazing to me, after all! Attitude: adjusted.

My other intentions include teaching myself how to paint with watercolours, racking up 10K steps per day on my Fitbit, making a record of each day in my Hobonichi (no matter how terse 🙂 ), and tracking my spending.

How about you? Any great plans for 2019?

Rock on,

The WB

I love your notebook and sticker affirmations. Your New Year’s “intentions” seems very doable. Mine plans for 2019 are scaled down from other years and mostly involve appreciating and using my talents more.

  2. I love that planner! And yes. I’m with you. I’ve been recording certain things but I definitely need to do better no matter what the day brings. My intentions of the New Year are selfishly, all about me but I think I’m due. My whole life I’ve been at the back of the line. Now I’m at the front and I’m not letting anyone cut in! 🙂 – Here’s to a New Year with ALL intentions fulfilled and all people kinder and more loving… Fingers, eyes and toes all crossed. Happy, Happy New Year!!!

    1. I’m glad you’re putting yourself first for a change Mimi. Sounds like it’s long overdue. Yes, here’s to a kinder, gentler, more loving New Year for humanity! 🎉🥂

  3. Your plans sound great! I’m working through the 101 Things I began in October and the winter bucket list I posted last week. That’ll keep me good and focused. Happy New Year!

  4. First – I LOVE stickers. It’s funny to read this post because I had just been thinking about stickers and how I could use them. I simply love what you’ve done for inspiration. “Good Things Are Going To Happen” is my favourite. Yes – they are!!

  5. Love the stickers, they will help you keep on track. About the weight, you did not put on the extra pounds all at once, so they will not come off all at once. Nothing wrong with 1/2 pound per week, as long as you stick with the plan, you will be a healthier you! (Can you tell I’m a WW Lifetime member?) Happy New Year, I hope you reach all of your goals.

  6. Love, love, love the stickers. I’m off to find some of my own! I didn’t make specific new years resolutions or goals exactly. I’ve decided my mantra for the year is “Create the Vision. Plan the Path. Live the Journey.” I like your “record” word and I will be recording (list making) my 101 New and/or Fun Things in 2019. I added the fun element in so I could put in things that are fun, but not necessarily new. Like Beach Yoga, which I’m doing on our snowbird adventure… plan is 3 x/week! Definitely a component of living the journey. Healthy habits is also a part of my vision so I am cognizant of the FitBit tracker, but not hitting 10,000 everyday yet. No other grand plans yet! Happy New Year to you!

  7. I love being a Badassian! And your planner is exceedingly cute – loved the stickers too. Good luck with writing something every day – I struggle to write something once a week! Hope the flu disappears quickly and you get those 10,000 steps in. I’ve set my Fitbit to 8,000 steps to get fireworks – gotta do what you gotta do to keep walking (I rarely reach 10,000 and was getting a bit disheartened).

    1. Thank you Leanne! Well, so far the flu has kept me from reaching 10K steps per week let alone per day. It’s a nasty one! But I am on the road to recovery, and it will be long while before I take good health for granted again 🤧🤒🥶

  8. Hope you’re feeling better, Deb!
Thank you for sharing your goals for the year …. hmmmm, what will mine be?
I would love to lose weight at the increments you did …. sooooooo slow, the progress! But I will take any progress!

  9. You don’t need those aphorisms, just read my stolen quote every day. Come to think of it, maybe I can steal some quotes from your planner. I hope you’re able to achieve your goals this year, and then some.

  10. I love love love the word intentions! I’m going to start using that one, too. And my Fitbit goals is 8,500 per day. I make it about half the time. Darn desk job…

  11. Those sound like great goals. Myself, I do not make New Year’s resolutions, but rather plug away at creating better habits, one tiny increment at a time. I look forward to the chance to visit with you in person next week.
