The Changing Seasons: April 2019 The Search for Spring

Well here I am with my Monday night Game of Thrones lack-of-sleep hangover, trying desperately to get my April post out before much more of May gets away from me…

In retrospect, April in Ontario was pretty meh with respect to the nicer aspects of spring. It remained cold and grey for most of the month. So it was a relief mid-month to head south to Augusta, Georgia for a few days of spring (and a couple of days of summer-like temps) before coming home to yet more chilly rain.

Here are some photos, that capture my month:

Start of Mandala painting Apr 4. Starved for colour and spring isn’t coming across with the goods!
Apr 6 Attended the Lineup Reveal concert for August’s KW Bluesfest. Lucky Peterson performed.
Apr 7 Still plenty of ice on the trail.

Apr 7 Sign of spring: fuzzy caterpillar
Apr 7 Another sign of spring: first frog sighting!
Apr 10 Daffodils spotted in Pennsylvania. Enroute to Augusta.
Apr 11 Tulips in Wytheville, Virginia
Apr 12 Our home for the weekend, outside of Augusta. From spring to 30 degrees C!
Apr 13 & 14 at the Masters. I didn’t take this picture as cameras weren’t allowed on tournament days. Someone snapped it on one of the practice days.
Apr 21 Speed River flooding just off the trail I walk. Some areas of Ontario were very hard hit by flooding.
Apr 21 Colt’s Foot blooming in dry areas.
Apr 28 65th birthday party for my BIL at Lionhead Golf Course. It was a surprise party, and it was my job to get him to the course under pretext. I did a great job – he was completely stunned to find out it was his birthday party and that I actually didn’t need his help in planning a corporate golf tournament – but it tore me up inside. I don’t like deceiving people, even for happy reasons, I have discovered.
Apr 28 My BIL (in blue) making the rounds of his party. Note the media screens. There were 4 in total. I gave a slideshow of our trip to Augusta.
Apr 30 Progress made on mandala painting

For some reason, WordPress is cutting off some of my photos. Or is it? On some devices I can see the entire photo, and on some they remain cut off. This is aggravating as I do spend some time cropping my photos to enhance them, and then to have them further cropped…well, colour me pissed. I don’t know what I am doing or not doing to cause this to happen. Argh!

Anywho, that was my April. The Changing Seasons is a monthly photo challenge hosted by the ever lovely Zimmerbitch. Please check out her blog and the other bloggers who participate!

Rock on,

The WB

  1. Your April was exciting. Both of your mandalas are pretty as are the daffodils and the dandelions. I’ve always been a sucker for yellow spring flowers. Fun to know that when there’s a surprise party a’happening, you’re the one to get the birthday kid to it. Good job.

    1. Thank you Ally! Getting BIL set up to leave the house under pretext was nerve-wracking, but only I knew how much it rattled me to pull this off, apparently! Gee, I guess I could get into espionage someday 😜

  3. Your paintings are great; lovely hits of sunshine. I’m very impressed by your efforts in espionage. I had to to that once and totally sucked at it.
Wishing you a warmer and sunnier (and drier) month ahead.

  4. Greetings from a new follower. I’m a fellow – or should I say former Southern Ontario-er, and lurker-no-longer-er.

Thanks for the shots of spring – and I hear ya – so tough when it’s grey and damp when what you really need and crave is sunny and warm and colourful.

May the month of May be the answer!

  5. Loving the mandala! Someday you and I will have to make a trip to Michaels together. I still haven’t found one of those awesome little tools you have for making such perfect circles.

This spring we’ve certainly had no shortage of the wet stuff, including today. At some point this summer will we be complaining how hot and dry it is? 😏

Happy May and here’s to more great days ahead and much fewer meh days!

    1. Uh-oh, I think that might be dangerous for our respective budgets 😜 Look at what happened when we both ended up at Sail, albeit independently 🤣🤣🤣. Of course we’ll be complaining of the heat later on – it’s the 🇨🇦 way!!!

Love your April post even though it’s May already. LOL

That is the craziest looking frog I’ve ever seen or my eyes are getting bad. I can’t figure out where its head is. Good thing I’m going to the eye doctor tomorrow.

I love the mandala pattern and colors and am jealous of your blue-fest experience.

    1. Thanks Jean! The 🐸 head is pointing to the right of the photo, if that helps!. It’s not that great of a photo. I took it with my iPhone and blew it up quite a bit.

  7. I love that you started and ended with the mandala paintings. Progress!

After I threw my daughter a surprise party (by request), she said she never wanted another one because she hated that people were lying to her the whole time and she didn’t know it. So it seems that deceit for positive reasons can have bad effects on everybody.

    1. Thanks Akilah! A requested surprise party? That must have been really hard to pull off! A lot of people have stated they hate being surprised. I always thought it was because they couldn’t be prepared in advance, but the “being lied to” part could be part of this as well.

      1. She mentioned that she would love to have one in passing once, so I decided to do it after I told her no (I really wasn’t going to do it when I said so haha). She didn’t know I was planning one at all.

I’ve read books that mention colt’s foot before but hadn’t realised how bright and cheery their flowers are.

  9. Hi Deb, I purchase the GOT DVDS and then my husband and I binge watch. I don’t think I will be able to wait a few months on the last series. The flooding was very significant this year🙁I enjoy your photos. Are you taking them with your new camera or a phone? I have also had recent glitches with WP. I discovered my replies were showing up as comments when I use my dashboard. I still have to find focused time to clarify the problem and then find a solution. I will let you know if I find out more about photos on WP. Like you say, is it a problem? Do different devices show cut off photos? Nice to see your Changing Season:) Erica

    1. Hi Erica, I usually wait for the DVDs too, but now I have Crave TV so can watch the episodes as they are released. And I’ll still buy the final season, later. Those pics were taken with my iPhone camera, still. I took my new camera out on the trail with me Sunday – loving the zoom lens! Shots will be showing up on the blog soon. Yeah, the cut off pictures thing is bugging me. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong and the box to check off full image has disappeared from the media edit function. Guess I’ll be calling WP soon. 😩Thanks!

      1. Hi Deb, You took amazing photos with your iPhone. I like my camera specifically for the great zoom feature. I will be investigating the photo results on WP too and I will share with you if I learn anything:)

  10. Love your Mandalas! My colorbook is filled with mandalas. I’ve been trying to return to coloring for relaxation (easier to take outside in nice weather than jigsaw puzzles).

      1. I was thinking I might post a few – at least in my Spring Wellness Update – if I ever get to it. I’m a bit out of sorts with my blogging and wellness these days — but hope to get back on track in the coming week or two. Thanks for your interest.

  11. Pat

I also color mandalas. I like your’s much better than any I have done. It’s simpler (fewer colors) and I love how it looks 3 dimensional. (is it?)

  12. Nancy

    Hey Deb,
We are still searching for spring up here in NH!!! It has been cold, and drizzly since we got home on 4/26. Yuck.
Can’t wait for some warmer weather…even the leaves on the trees are delayed this year.
Hoping for sunshine and good travelling as we drive to MI for my niece’s wedding next weekend.

  13. Awh,,, fuzzy caterpillars, have always liked them since I was a child. LOL at your Game of Thrones hangover. My teenager, who is a Junior in High School can relate!

Here's where the magic happens. I love comments!
